SRINAGAR: The LED street lights that were placed throughout Jammu as part of the Smart City project are now non-operational, as the copper wires have been stolen by thieves forcing authorities to install new wires.
The matter came to light after the locals of the area, especially from Gandhi Nagar complained about the non- functional street lights that had been installed a month ago, The Tribune reported.
Upon proper investigation it came to light that at most places in Gandhi Nagar locality, the copper wires were stolen soon after these poles were installed.
The wires are now being laid again in different sectors of the locality where accommodation of high profile officers is located.
Meanwhile, the officials have lodged police complaints regarding theft of wires and other material installed under the Smart City Project.
