SRINAGAR: A group of car-borne youth have ‘attacked’ a picket manning the temple security and beat them, reports said. Some reports said they were armed.
Reports said the five youth were in a Santro car and they stopped outside the Police minority protection picket at Ichhigam Budgam. The picket is taking care of the security of the minority population and also the temple.
They later barged into the picket and searched for the arms and ammunition. They did not found anything and left the spot after beating the cops.
The incident was watched by residents who gathered in good numbers. The youth later drove away in the same car and reportedly fired a few rounds in the air too.
Media reports quoted SSP Budagm Tejinder Singh saying that “some unknown persons” had barged inside the post and thrashed some guards. “Whether it was a militant attack or any rivalry is a matter of investigation,” he was quoted saying.
