A resident who rang up Kashmir Life said the firing is taking place from some house located near the inner bus stand of the locality. He said there were a couple of deafening sounds and police seemed to have used excessive tear smoke that has triggered a sort of panic in the locality.
Sources said though massive police movement was witnessed around Soura around 5 pm, the cordon took place soon after the evening prayers. Soon after, firing shots were heard.
Police sources said they are in the process of collecting details about the happenings in the area. We will share details as soon as they become aviliable, spokesman for the police said.
If the encounter is confirmed by the police, which seems imminent, it will mark the beginning of a break in a long lull in the city on the militancy front.
