Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday registered an FIR against violators for violation of lockdown orders in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “Defying all the health advisories and orders of administration and appeal given by different Auqaf Committees and Masjid Committees of Shopian, Friday prayers were held in Village Pandushan of Shopian thereby endangering the lives of hundreds of villagers and the entire area.”

“Accordingly, a case FIR No.39/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Shopian and further investigations have been initiated,” he said.

“In the matter, Police has also booked Molvi Abdul Ghani Thoker resident of Pandushan who led the prayers and four others who organised this congregation,” he added.

“Shopian Police has once again requested the general public of district Shopian to follow the restrictions imposed by the government and isolate themselves in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
