District Administration, Kupwara is making concerted efforts to provide proper health care facilities to COVID-19 patients in the district. For this purpose, Sub District Hospital (SDH), Kupwara, having a capacity of 100 beds, has been designated as Isolation Facility Centre (IFC) for COVID-19 patients. The Hospital premises and its adjacent area have been declared red zone, to contain the spread of the Virus.

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara, Anshul Garg, revealed that augmentation of other government, as well as private healthcare institutions, is underway to meet the requirements.

“The SDH, now COVID-19 Hospital, Kupwara has been equipped with the designated number of beds, equipment, drugs, logistics for the COVID-19 patients as per the SOPs and protocols for combating the dreaded contagious disease within a short span of time”, said the Chief Medical Officer, Kupwara, adding that apart from already existing equipment, an adequate quantity of requisite items have been procured from the funds provided by the DC. These items include 14 suctions, 14-bed side plus oxymeters, 39 oxygen flow meters, 30 bulk oxygen cylinders, 12 side screens, 2000 disposable sheets, 2000 disposable pillow covers, 73 wooden beds for administrative quarantine, 22 semi fowler beds,  30 IV stands, 4000 disposable electrodes for monitors, 80 dust bins, 4000 bags for BioMedical Waste, 10 air purifiers, 40 laryngoscopes, 190 endotracheal tubes, 47 LMA, 40 tracheostomy sets, 55000 triple layer masks, 2100 sanitizers of 100ml, 250 sanitizers of 500ml, 472 waterproof gowns with trousers and 1000 N-95 masks, added the CMO.

CMO further said that 02 ventilators have been shifted from District Hospital, Handwara and installed at COVID-19 center to handle the critical patients. Besides, the sample taking procedure has been started at the COVID Facility Centre to minimize the inconvenience to patients caused to them due to shifting from Kupwara to Baramulla, SKIMS, & CD Hospital. “We have trained the staff and started the procedure after getting VTMs from Controller PM stores”, said the CMO adding that during the last 2 days about 32 samples have been taken by our trained staff.

CMO said that DC Kupwara has deputed two SRTC Buses to pick and drop the health employees of the district from their respective areas for their hassle-free movement to reach their duties well in time in view of the restrictions imposed in the district.

In his message for people of Kupwara district, CMO appealed to follow the preventive measures and stay indoors so that the dreaded Virus is contained in the district. He said control rooms at district and bock level are working 24 X 7 to address the grievances of people.

Meanwhile, DC took stock of health care facilities for the other patients in the district. He was informed that necessary steps are being taken to augment the health care institutions across the district so that normal patients do not feel any inconvenience for want to treatment.

It was given out that SDH Sogam has been provided with trained staff from SDH Kupwara to attend dialysis patients regularly. The dialysis facility at SDH, Kupwara has been put to halt as the COVID-19 patients are being treated there.

It was further informed that full time dialysis facility is also being provided at Quality Care hospital, Handwara, which has been kept under the disposal of CMO under the provisions of Disaster Management Act.

Regarding Gyne and Obstetrics facilities, the D C was informed that SB Nursing Home, Kupwara has also been put  at the disposal of CMO as Gynae and obsteritics facility.
