The 72-year old man who died due to COVID-19 on Saturday in Srinagar was laid to rest in his hometown Tangmarg as per protocol for such casualties.

An eyewitness said that only a few relatives after wearing protective gear were allowed to participate in funeral prayers of the deceased which took place at his native village in Tangmarg. Besides as per the protocol, the body was buried 8 feet below the surface.

“His cask was carried in by men dressed in protective gear, while the relatives of the deceased wore masks,” he said. Reports said that he was admitted to the hospital on April 13.

With his death, the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 has raised six in Kashmir Valley.

As of now, J&K has reported 496 cases, out of which 439 were in Kashmir and 57 in Jammu. Six have died, while 109 recovered. More than 65722 people have been kept under surveillance.
