Army veteran Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain (retd) has been named chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir.
Hasnain will replace founding chancellor and nuclear scientist Srikumar Banerjee.
Hasnain is a highly decorated retired general of the Indian Army. He has also commanded an Army Corps in Jammu and Kashmir and is said to have been a member of track 2 diplomacy initiatives with Pakistan. He is also associated with the think tanks Vivekananda International Foundation and Delhi Policy Group.
