The nomination papers of 14 candidates to fill the 11 vacancies in the Upper House were Thursday found valid during the scrutiny of the nomination papers held in the office of Returning Officer, Mohammad Ramzan in Jammu.

As many as 15 candidates filed their nomination papers on 18th February, the last day of making nominations. One nomination paper of independent candidate namely, Ajay Singh Chandail was found invalid and was rejected. Consequently, nominations of 14 candidates were found valid for the LC elections.

Against the 3 vacancies caused due to Bye-election, the nomination papers of Yasir Reshi and Firdoos Ahmed Tak both from JKPDP and Sofi Yousuf from BJP (Kashmir Province) were been found valid.

For Biennial election from Kashmir Province, the nomination papers of Anayat Ali, Javaid Ahmad, Saif-ud-Din Bhat from JKPDP, Chering Dorjay and Drakshan Andrabi both of BJP and Qaiser Jamshed Lone of JKNC were also found valid.

Similarly, from Jammu Province, the nomination papers of Surinder Kumar Choudhary of JKPDP, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo of JKNC, Vibod Gupta, Ramesh Arora, Charanjeet Singh of BJP were also found valid.

The nominations can be withdrawn by the candidates on 21st February (Saturday) before 3 p.m.

In the event of election being contested, the poll will take place on 2nd March (Monday) between 9 am and 4 pm.

Though the official results are to come out after the voting on March 2 however, no candidate filed nominations against Yasir Reshi, Anayat Ali and Firdoos Ahmed Tak of PDP and Sofi Yousuf of BJP hence they are considered elected uncontested.
