SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police, on Monday announced the arrest of a couple impersonating as IAS and IPS officers in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

In a statement, police revealed that they received a written complaint at Police Station Sadder regarding fraudulent activities involving two individuals who were posing as IPS and IAS officers.

These imposters had deceived multiple people by falsely promising them jobs and other benefits, as mentioned in the statement.

The accused have been identified as Manmohan Gangoo, son of the late Gardari Lal Ganjoo, residing in Barnai, Jammu, and Ayoush Koul, wife of Manmohan Gangoo, and a housewife.

Manmohan Gangoo was pretending to be a suspended HC with the designation/identification of a fake IPS officer, while Ayush Koul was playing the role of an IAS officer, according to the statement.

According to Srinagar Police, the impersonating IPS officer Manmohan Ganjoo is suspended police personnel.

Following the complaint, FIR 73/23 was registered under sections 419, 420, 468, 471, 170, and 467 of the Indian Penal Code. Immediate action was taken, resulting in the apprehension of the accused individuals.

The police are currently conducting an investigation to verify other allegations and gather evidence. As part of this ongoing inquiry, various items including money, jewelry, and electronic gadgets were seized from the scene in front of Executive Magistrates. The digital devices contained fake orders, including a false order about Manmohan Gangoo’s induction into the IPS.

The statement advises the public to be cautious and not fall for such scams. Individuals who have been victimized by this couple are urged to report the incidents to Police Station Sadder for prompt resolution.
