Court Grants Bail To Waheed Parra

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High court granted interim bail to Peoples Democratic party Leader Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra on Wednesday, his lawyer informed.

In a tweet his Lawyer Shariq Reyaz said, “Waheed Para granted bail by HC. Order of trial court set aside. Had the onerous duty to lead his defence and argue his bail appeal. Waheed walks out after more than a year in custody.”

Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mehbooba in a tweet said, “Finally after almost two years, Waheed Para gets bail & I hope he walks out as a free man soon. Would like to thank his lawyer Shariq for fighting his case with such conviction & determination.”

Pertinent to mention that Para was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25, 2020, just a day after he announced his candidacy for the District Development Council elections and filed nomination papers.

In January 2021, he was granted bail by the NIA court. The special judge at the court held that “offences particularly falling under Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA) are not prima facie made out against the accused”.

While Waheed was stepping out of the jailParra was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (Kashmir) and brought from Jammu on a transit remand, after his release by an NIA court on January 9, 2021.
