J&K High Court on Thursday quashed the detention of Sofi Fehmeeda, the close aide of Dukhtaran-e-Milat Chairperson Asiya Andrabi under Public Safety Act (PSA), local news gatherer CNS said.

Justice Muzafar Atthar while quashing detention directed the state government to release her forthwith.

“The grounds of detention are vague unsupported by any material. Routine allegations without any supporting material cannot form base for order of detention,” court observed. “Keeping in view the facts, circumstances and the law, the only inescapable conclusion is that the order of detention is unsustainable, as such, quashed. Detenue shall be released forthwith.”

“How District Magistrate Srinagar and Police have formulated the grounds of detention is not clear from the records as produced. No case is shown to have been registered against the detenue.,” the court said.

The detainees was represented by Mian Abdul Qayoom. Fahmida was arrested on October 4 and lodged in sub-jail Baramulla.
