SRINAGAR: After a surge in COVID cases in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities placed section 144 within the municipal limits of Srinagar on Wednesday, claiming that the key goal is to prevent virus spread.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Choudhary while talking to media said that police and other government forces have been deployed on the roads since the morning to enforce section 144 CrPC in letter and spirit in order to prevent the virus from spreading

According to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he further stated that the 50 per cent shops as per the government order are closed. He appealed the traders and shopkeepers to follow the orders in letter and spirit. (KNO)
