Army on Tuesday resorted to aerial firing in Okay village in Kulgam district in southern part of Kashmir during a crackdown, reports said.

Reports quoting sources said that women of the village started raising slogans against army after the personnel allegedly beat and thrash many civilians during the crackdown.

Earlier the army launched a crackdown in the village on the pattern of nineties asking male population to assemble at one place.

They added that women of the village started raising their voice against what they called the highhandedness of army personnel. Army personnel in response started firing in air to disperse the protesting women, sources said.

They said that firing created chaos in the area and the situation was tense.
