The students in Larkipora area of Dooru on Tuesday morning staged protest in Larkipora area of the district after some students were allegedly beaten by Army while they were on way to college.

The students of Government Degree College Dooru said that they were on way to college in a mini bus and at the gate of Army garrison of 19 RR situated at Larkipora the vehicle was stopped.

“The passengers were asked to come down and the students were separated from them,” said a local. “The students were later beaten by the Army men.”

As per locals, the female passengers later intervened and rescued them.

Later as the news of the army thrashing spread, students gathered in the market and staged protest shouting anti-army slogans.

The market was shut and vehicular movement stopped in the area.

Larkipora is situated on the Islamabad-Verinag Road around ten kilometers away from district head quarters.

Pertinently, protests erupted few day ago in Dooru after students of government Higher Secondary School Dooru alleged that some of their classmates were beaten by Army at Nowgam Verinag.

The student protests have intensified across Kashmir since last month after forces barged into the campus of a government run college in Pulwama.
