Muslims in every corner of the world were waiting to see the crescent moon of the ninth month of the Hijri Calendar. The sighting of the moon on the evening of the 29th day of Shaban month will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan. It is believed that during the month of Ramadan, the first verses of the holy book of the Quran were revealed to the prophet Muhammad.
During this month, Muslims observe fast from dawn to dusk. Keeping fast during Ramzan is considered one of the five pillars of Islam.
Whether Muslims will observe 29 or 30 fasts is based on the sighting of the moon, which is crucial in deciding the beginning and the ending of the month. After the end of the month of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
