SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of duping a job seeker with a false promise of employment in Cambodia, where the victim was allegedly forced into online scamming instead of the promised job.
According to officials, the chargesheet in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been filed before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan.
The case was registered following a complaint alleging that the accused promised to arrange a job as a Computer Operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of Rs. 90,000.
Believing the offer, the complainant transferred lakhs of rupees into the accused’s bank account and incurred additional expenditure on visa processing, travel and other related formalities.
The investigation found that after reaching Cambodia, the complainant was allegedly compelled to participate in online scamming activities instead of being provided the promised employment.
Crime Branch officials said the investigation substantiated the allegations, following which the chargesheet was presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
The Economic Offences Wing has advised the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent overseas employment offers and other economic offences. It has urged people to report such incidents to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch JK.
