SRINAGAR: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday carried out searches in Srinagar and Budgam in connection with a land fraud case involving allegations of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy amounting to several lakhs of rupees.
In a statement, a spokesperson said the action was taken in FIR No. 06/2026, registered under Sections 420, 468, and 120-B RPC, following a written complaint from a resident of Humhama, Budgam.
The complainant alleged that Tariq Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Solina, Srinagar, fraudulently obtained lakhs of rupees from him under the pretext of selling land located at Narkara, Srinagar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, Tariq Ahmad Sofi of Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, and Tariq Ahmad Wani of Narkara, Budgam, both land brokers, allegedly conspired with a then Patwari. They are accused of preparing and using forged documents to deceive the complainant and misappropriate money in connection with the land transaction.
Following these findings, searches were conducted at multiple locations in Srinagar and Budgam in the presence of Executive Magistrates to collect incriminating material and other evidence relevant to the investigation.
