Brown sugar worth over Rs 100 Crores was seized by police from a truck coming from Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK) to Uri during cross LoC trade on Friday.

Police found 114 packets of brown sugar weighing almost a kilogram each, from one of the trucks that came from PaK bearing number RIS-2137 of Al- Fajar Company.

Reports said that when the truck reached Salamabad Uri check-point, it was routinely checked and the police found large number of mysterious packets in one of the almond bags. The truck stand was cordoned and no one was allowed to move outside the premises till senior officials of police, crime branch and Intelligence Agencies reached the spot.

 The station house officer Uri police station Mohammad Abdullah said that police seized 114 packets of brown sugar and that an expert team was called to ascertain the composition of the seized material. The custodian of Salamabad trade centre also confirmed the reports.

Hilal Turkie, general secretary Salamabad-Uri trade union said that the incident must be condemned at every level because same has brought bad name to the cross LoC trade at large.
