The prevailing bad weather condition in Valley Friday hit the cross-LoC trade as Red bridge near Kaman Setu was closed down after landslide hit the area prompting authorities to close Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.

The trade closure has stranded 25 trucks.

On Monday, landslides triggered by nonstop rains also stopped the Srinagar-Muzzafarabad bus service.

The bad weather also damaged two houses in URI, belonging to one Mazoom Ali Shah of Gati Cholan and Mohammad Yousuf of Dara Gutliya respectively.

Earlier, five families from Gharkot and one family of Chola were shifted to safer places due to fear of landslides in these areas. “These families have been provided with tents and blankets,” said GM Khatana, Tehsildar Uri.

As of now, Khatana said, several roads in Uri are blocked due to landslide, “but we will start clearing them once rains stop.”

Also, some 50 to 60 villages in Uri continues to reel under darkness from past several days as the transmission line that supplies Grid Station Salamabad broke at Mohra.

Meanwhile, Showkat Ahmad, who is Custodian LoC Trade, said the trade body is pressing authorities to thrown open the road at the earliest to resume the halted trade.
