SRINAGAR: Suspected militants have started firing at one of CRPF’s Sumbal camps. The firing started early morning, soon after the Fajr prayers were over.

Informed sources said the camp is housing paramilitary men from 45 Bn. The garrison is in close proximity of the police station. The belt is surrounded by orchards and the fire is coming from these orchards, reports, confirmed by the police sources said.

The fire is being retaliated but not many details have emerged, so far. In a way it is not even an encounter because the CRPF is unaware about the possible number of attackers.

Late last night, in the meanwhile, a cordon and search operation (CASO) was initiated in south Kashmir’s Kakpora belt. Various villages were being searched, reports said.

Residents in and around Kakpora said the entire belt has been cordoned off and the troops are searching the area. Villages that are under cordon include Kakpora, Beighpora and Malangpora. There were some protests as well but the details are scanty.

It was not immediately known if the operation had been started after the security grid got any specific input about possible presence of any rebels in the area.

Civil administration sources said the search operation was going on but they also lacked details.
