CSAS Releases Book on Shaikh-ul Aalam’s Poetry

A Book release function was held in the Centre for Sheikh-ul Aalam studies (CSAS), University of Kashmir on Wednesday in which a book titled ‘Alchemy of Light-II’ (Urdu and English translation of Shaikh-ul Aalam’s Poetry) was released.

As per a local news agency, CNS, tThe book contains Urdu and English translation of more than 350 poetic verses on different subjects of the poetry of Hazrat Shaikh-ul Aalam in Kashmiri.

 Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmad who presided over the function congratulated the centre for their excellence in propagating the teaching of Shaikh-ul Aalam. “Various developments have taken place in the centre and more needs to be done.”

He said, “We want to see the teaching and poetry of Shaikh-ul Aalam on the international level and for that translation is necessary in various languages.”

He said that seniors should be ready to guide the youth for the change. “Youth should come forward for the change and they should implement the teachings of Sheikh-ul-Aalam in letter and spirit.”

Retired High Court Judge, Justice BA Kirmani, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that Sheikh-ul- Aalam is the real torch bearer of literature.

“His teachings have shown us the path of our history and the real teachings of our culture and heritage lies with the poetry of the great poet,” he said.

He impressed upon the youth to read Shaikh-ul-Alam extensively so that they can enlighten themselves with this literature.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah while speaking on the occasion congratulated the author and centre for their exemplary work.

About the preservation of culture and heritage of Kashmir, he said, “We only talk of preserving our culture and heritage and we do less on ground. We should join hands to preserve our rich culture.”

Author of the Book, Ghulam Nabi Adfar said that Sheikh-ul -Aalam is the son of the soil who preserved our heritage and religion through his poetry, “He inculcated in us the teachings of Islam through his Kalaam.”

He said that the messages of Sheikh-ul- Aalam is universal for all sections of the society be it jurist, teacher, agrarian or anyone else.

Earlier in his welcome address, chairman, CSAS, Prof Bashar Bashir said that the centre has achieved success to large extent in propagating the teachings of Sheikh-ul Aalam, “Our department is a full -fledged research centre now. We are working day and night to spread the teachings of Alamdar-e-Kashmir all over the world.”

He said, “People are now coming forward and helping us in our cause. If someone comes to Kashmir, he should see the beauty in terms of heritage and culture.”

Dr Aziz Hajini, Assistant Prof. CSAS in his remarks said that the Kashmiri language should be given the status of Classical Language and for that translation of Kalaam of sheikh-ul Aalam andLal Ded in other languages is necessary.

Prof. Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi presented his views about the book on the occasion.

Noted poet and writer, Ghulam Nabi Gowhar and writer Mushtaq-ul -Haq Sikandar presented the review of the Book. The writers praised the efforts of G.N Adfar.
