Authorities on Monday imposed curfew in Kupwara and Trehgam areas of North Kashmir.

Reports reaching here said that the restrictions were earlier lifted after four days but soon after the restrictions were lifted, people in Kupwara and adjoining areas held massive protest demonstrations against the killings of five civilians and pelted stones on police and paramilitary forces.

Sensing trouble, the authorities imposed the restrictions, local sources said.

In Trehgam, witnesses said, police and CRPF personnel ransacked some houses amid restrictions. “Police and CRPF ransacked some houses after the locals held protest demonstrations against the recent civilian killings,” they said.

Curfew continues in Handwara where three persons were killed on last Tuesday. Two more were dead after that.
