Identified as Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Abdul Ahad Sofi, a tenth class student was hit by bullet. He was taken to JVC hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Later, J&K Police had issued a statement reading, “The deployed forces came under heavy pelting. To control the situation they fired few rounds resulting in injuries to a local youth namely Suhail Ahmad Sofi S/O Abdul Ahad Sofi R/O Narbal, Magam.”

Regretting the death of the tenth class student, the police statement added, “preliminary enquiry conducted in the matter indicates that the forces deployed have acted in violation of the laid down SOP.
