Curfew in Samba Town

Following violent clashes in Samba in Jammu, curfew has been imposed in the area late Thursday evening.

“Curfew was imposed in Samba district after violence erupted there following alleged religious sacrilege by members of one community,” a police official was quoted as having said.

Clashes erupted yesterday Thursday at Raya Morh area in Samba district where protesters torched the vehicle of the district magistrate and smashed other vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. “Several policemen and protesters were injured in the clashes. Army was called during the night to install confidence among the people,” reports said.

The protesters were alleging that their religious scriptures had been torched inside a factory in Bari Brahmana industrial area.

“Police and civil administration are seeking the help of the elders of the two communities to restore communal harmony in the town.”
