SRINAGAR: Kishtwar Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the alleged sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl and the subsequent termination of her pregnancy in Dachhan. The accused was produced before a court in Kishtwar on Saturday and remanded to six days of police custody.

The accused has been identified as Shabir Ahmed Magrey, son of Bashir Ahmed Magrey, a retired policeman, and a resident of Magrey Mohallah, Sounder. The case has been registered under FIR No. 20/2026 at Police Station Dachhan under Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Sections 63, 64, 91, 92 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation is being led by SDPO Dachhan Nitish Sharma and SHO Police Station Dachhan Suresh Goutam.

The police response began after officials received a tip-off about the alleged termination of the girl’s pregnancy. Acting on the information, police traced the girl, who was reportedly in critical condition due to substantial blood loss, and shifted her to District Hospital Kishtwar.

As her condition required specialised treatment, she was referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Doda, before being shifted to a hospital in Jammu.

Sources said Kishtwar Police also coordinated the arrangement of four pints of the rare B-negative blood group required for the girl. Their timely intervention and efforts to secure the blood reportedly played a crucial role in saving her life.

The girl remained under treatment for around two weeks before being discharged. The prompt response, coordination with medical facilities and continued attention to her safety underscore the importance of a sensitive and timely police response in cases involving children.

Following her discharge, police recorded the girl’s statement. During the investigation, she allegedly identified Shabir Ahmed Magrey as the person responsible for impregnating her and facilitating the termination of her pregnancy.

According to her statement, an injection was administered to her at a local medical shop at the alleged instance of the accused. She reportedly told the Juvenile Police Unit that she did not know which injection had been given to her but developed abdominal pain afterwards.

Police have also summoned the medical assistant associated with the shop for questioning. The individual, who reportedly operates the medical shop, had not been arrested when this report was filed.

Investigators are expected to examine the medical assistant’s alleged role, the circumstances in which the injection was administered and whether it was connected to the termination of the pregnancy.

The six-day police remand is expected to help investigators verify the allegations and establish the sequence of events, including whether other persons were involved.
