SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cautioned people against ClickFix cyber attacks, in which fraudsters use fake CAPTCHA prompts, browser error messages, account verification pages and software update alerts to trick users into executing malicious commands.
The warning highlights how cybercriminals exploit seemingly legitimate pop-ups to deceive users into compromising their devices and online security.
Common tactics include fake “I’m not a robot” CAPTCHA prompts, browser alerts asking users to click a button to fix an issue, verification requests claiming users must prove they are human, and messages urging them to install purported security updates.
Users have been advised to remain alert, avoid clicking suspicious prompts and refrain from running commands suggested by untrusted websites or pop-ups.
Police have also urged people to think carefully before clicking on links or responding to unexpected verification requests.
Anyone who falls victim to cyber fraud should immediately call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or report the incident through the official portal, cybercrime.gov.in.
The advisory urges the public to remain vigilant and take precautions to prevent cyber fraud.
