Renowned Vitreo-retinal Surgeon  from South India, Prof. S Natarajan was felicitated Saturday evening at Srinagar’s SMHS hospital by senior executive members of Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK).

Dr Masood Rashid, Dr Masood ul Hassan, Dr Choudri Muzafar were present on the occasion besides HOD Ophthalmology, GMC, Srinagar.

It is worthwhile to mention that Prof. S Natarajan has been visiting Srinagar during the recent uprising and has volunteered to operate on patients with pellet eye injury with poor prognosis since August 2016.He arrived at Kashmir’s SMHS Hospital for the fourth time on Thursday afternoon to operate upon the pellet victims. He has, till date performed 157 complicated Vitreo-retinal surgeries during his last three visits to Srinagar.

Prof Tariq Qureshi who is presently heading the Ophthalmology department at SMHS Hospital has performed more than 800  eye trauma surgeries  due to Pellet injuries along with the whole department during this unrest.

Dr G M Mir, President, DAK appreciated and hailed the work done by these stalwarts and hoped that this programme will be carried forward with same enthusiasm. It is pertinent to mention here that DAK had started a donation campaign during the present unrest and thanks to valuable donors and blessings of Almighty were able to collect Rs 1670763 and 14 constellation sets worth Rs 424050 were donated to Ophthalmology department through the office of Medical Superintendent SMHS for pellet victims.

President, DAK, Dr G M Mir while appreciating the efforts of Ophthalmology department GMC Srinagar assured of all possible help in future which they may need particularly for the patients of pellet injuries.
