Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK) on Saturday refuted allegations against Paediatric Department of SDH, Sopore. President, DAK, Dr G M Mir in a statement terming the allegations as bundle of lies and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the doctors in SDH, Sopore, said that a fact finding mission of DAK visited the hospital and came out with the observations that all doctors of the said hospital are working with zeal and dedication.

“DAK talked to various people inside and outside the hospital and were satisfied with the work of doctors. The allegations levelled in the story carried out by a local daily are nothing but a bundle of lies and figment of one’s imagination, a DAK statement said.

DAK team further came to know that the doctor against whom it was alleged that he was absent on August 15 was actually on legitimate leave and had official duty at District Hospital, Baramulla the next day. “The poor reporter does not even know that physiological jaundice in children is a normal phenomenon and does not need any screening.”

GM Mir said questioned why should poor people be forced to spend thousands of rupees unnecessarily for screening of diseases which are not clinically suspected, it seems the concerned reporter is probably hand in glove with some private labs and is putting pressure on doctors to advise unnecessary investigations to neonates.

He further said that doctors managing Paediatric Department at SDH, Sopore are highly competent and dedicated professionals who know their subject very well and as such “we advise our young journalists that before publishing stories about medical negligence they should speak to concerned specialists and then only publish the stories.

“One sided fabricated stories having no scientific basis and they only bring disrepute to the publisher rather doing any harm to people against whom they are directed.”
