SRINAGAR: Amid cold conditions that are prevailing in the valley, thousands of people on Wednesday thronged the shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani to offer prayers and pay obeisance on his annual Urs.

The devotees thronged the main shrine at Khanyar and also at Sarai Bala to get a glimpse of the relic of the 11th century saint.

Even though the night prayers were suspended at the Khanyar Shrine, they were offered with zeal and fervour at Sarai Bala Shrine. Devotees also participated in the pre-dawn Fajr prayers at Sarai Bala.

Devotees usually pay obeisance at the shrine for 11 days till main Urs day. Both the shrines are dedicated to 11th century sufi Saint whose actual shrine is located at Baghdad in Iraq. Even though the saint never visited Kashmir, he is highly revered by the locals
