For the third consecutive day, a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama district of south Kashmir against the killings of militants and a civilian.

According to GNS, all the shops, commercial establishments, educational institutes and petrol pumps were closed in the district while as transport was also off the roads.

Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, Showkat and Gulzar, were killed in a fierce encounter at Ratnipora with government forces. After the killings of militants, a civilian, Bilal Ahmad, was killed in the firing of BSF troopers at Malangpora in the district.

The killings sparked off massive anti-India protests in the district while as residents clashed with government forces at various places.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people thronged the residents of slain militants and a civilian to express solidarity and sympathy with their families.

The government forces were placed on all across the district to contain the protests. However, the situation remained peaceful, an official said.
