SRINAGAR: Kashmir police chief, Vijay Kumar on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar to review the security situation in view of recent militant attacks in the summer capital, especially Friday’s attack in Baghat in which two policemen lost their lives.
A police spokesman, in a statement, said that Kumar told officers to strengthen the security grid and ensure better coordination among themselves and with other sister agencies to ensure that no such attack takes place in the future.
The IGP said that there is a huge importance of ‘Round the clock’ checkpoints at strategic locations and ‘Surprise CASO'[cordon-and-search-operations] at crowded places.
He said that placing cut-off points on exit routes immediately after such incidents and using high reaches to dominate the area should be put in practice. “Drones shall be used to check and identify suspicious movements.”
Kumar was also briefed regarding the security measures put in place to counter attacks and to maintain the law and order situation across the Valley, as a large number of ‘tourists’ will be visiting in the coming summer season.
While urging his officers to be vigilant and to take all necessary precautions to ensure the maintenance of law & order in the city, IGP asked the zonal SSP to take strict action against the people intending to disturb the ‘prevailing peace’ in the Valley.
