SRINAGAR: The body of the 13-year-old boy who drowned in the River Jhelum near the Lasjan area of Srinagar on yesterday was recovered on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), assisted by police, resumed the search operation at first light and recovered the body from the river this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Lukman Javed Malik (13), son of Javed Ahmad Malik, a resident of Lasjan, Srinagar.
The boy had drowned on Saturday while bathing in the river after accidentally slipping into deep waters. After completion of the necessary formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further proceedings
