Literally going underground, the Awami Action Committee (AAC) on Sunday said it convened a meeting of its leaders, workers and activists at an undisclosed location due to the continuous restrictions of its headquarters, Mirwaiz manzil Srinagar.

During the meeting, the participants took a detailed view of the ongoing political situation in Kashmir. Besides expressing serious concern over the imposition of curfews, restrictions, killing, blinding and maiming of innocent Kashmiris, the participants said the human rights violations have become the norm of the day from past three and half months of uprising.

“The participants said that the state forces were using every brute method to repress the freedom struggle in Kashmir, adding, the recent incident of ransacking of houses and beating residents of Nagbal Shopian and Tengpora Batamaloo are highly condemnable,” the statement said.

The meeting also congratulated Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for figuring among the five most influential Muslim leaders of South Asia in the list of 500 Muslims leaders prepared by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre Jordan across the globe. “The AAC and the people of Kashmir were feeling proud over this achievement of Mirwaiz,” the statement added.

The statement also said that Mirwaiz played an instrumental role in creating the unity alliance of pro-freedom leaders by extending hands to both Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohamamd Yaseen Malik.
