Intense clashes erupted in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
Reports and local sources said that thousands of people have come out on roads in Arihal area of Pulwama.
“People and men in uniform are engaged in intense clashes and the forces fired scores of bullets in air to break the protests,” locals said.
They added that forces raided the area on late Tuesday night to arrest a local Imam, Mufti Sheeraz Ahmad. Mufti Sheeraz is a resident of New Colony in Arihal area.
“But he was not at his home and people rose up in protests last night as well which resulted in intense clashes,” they said.
“The forces resorted to ransacking and damaged private property worth lakhs of rupees,” locals added.
They further said that at least six persons were arrested by the forces last night. However, their identification could not be ascertained immediately.
“The action of forces,” the locals said, “enraged people.” “Since early morning, announcements were made and people came out of their homes and protests erupted.”
