Expressing deep concern about the repeated and lengthy crackdowns and torture of the people in whole of the valley All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday said that government’s “tall claims” of governance are nothing but a “mockery and hypocritical gestures to strengthen their unjust and criminal rule”.

“During these crackdowns and search operations,” the Hurriyat Conference said, “army along with the police subject the inmates to the worst kind of cruel, inhuman and unsocial treatment. They not only beat to pulp the men, but also molest the females and destroy and ransack the belongings as well. They take away the valuables and even break the concrete walls of the houses as well.”

“These forces and their masters should get it into their brains that these cowardice acts are in way going to salvage their mutilated image and they can never be able to suppress the voice of freedom,” the Hurriyat Conference said in a statement issued this evening.

“Recently in different areas, schools and private vehicles have been burnt and we have reports that culprits do so in the vicinity of police and under their watchful eyes,” Geelani led Hurriyat Conference claimed.

The Hurriyat Conference said that the “unknown” label is a “misnomer and these anti-people and anti-social actions are carried out in broad daylight with a well-planned strategy to malign the on-going movement and paint it as the violence and anarchy”.

“People in general and youth in particular should come forward to expose these elements and safeguard our pious struggle and project it in its real perspective,” the Hurriyat Conference observed.

Commenting on the “Bank robbery” in South Kashmir, the Hurriyat Conference said, “this is handiwork of anti-social elements who are neck-deep into the inhuman crimes and this is our responsibility as the custodians of this movement to nip these evils in the bud.”

The statement quoting the comments of the Hurriyat Conference on the “pro-establishment” role of some bureaucrats hatchery said, “one of our  hardworking and active member in Sopore Mr Abdul Gani Bhat has been charge-sheeted as anti-social and anti-people by some magistrate namely Mehraj-u-Din.” “These so-called well-wishers of this criminal regime need to retrospect their own conscience and at least ascertain who is actually anti-social. Their loyalty may fetch them the promotions but they will always be remembered as the tools of the notorious establishment,” the Hurriyat Conference observed.
