Pakistan High Commission Staff Officer Akhtar Mehmood has been arrested by police in New Delhi on Thursday.

Reports said that Pakistan High Commissioner to New Delhi Abdul Basit has been summoned in the Indian foreign office today.

Reports said that Mehmood was detained “along with some defence documents”.

Pakistan on Wednesday had summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to protest repeated ceasefire violations at the Working Boundary and Line of Control (LoC).

The Foreign Office handed a protest letter to the Indian envoy over the ceasefire violations.

In the latest incident, two civilians were killed while eight villagers were injured on Wednesday due to alleged Indian firing at Chaprar sector on Working Boundary, the ISPR said.

Meanwhile, the BSF in Jammu said that their one constable succumbed to injuries after being injured in alleged firing by Pakistani troops along International Border in Jammu region.

Since the suspected militant attack in on an Army establishment in North Kashmir’s Uri, and subsequent claims of “surgical strikes along LoC in Kashmir” by Indian troops, ceasefire violations have been a routine affair.

Both sides on IB and LoC have reported many injuries and these only mount day by day.
