A BSF constable succumbed to his injuries as Pakistan allegedly violated ceasefire in RS Pura and Arnia sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, firing mortar shelling.

Reports said that the constable had been injured in splinter shelling this morning.

At least six civilians have been injured in the mortar shelling and small arms fire.

After today’s violation, the number of those injured in alleged Pakistani firing since last week has risen to 30, while two people, a BSF personnel and a six-year-old boy, have been killed.

People in R S Pura and Arnia sectors had a sleepless night as the shelling was so intense that it was audible even up to 20 kms away. Over a dozen BSF border outposts were affected due to the shelling, sources said, adding that BSF troops were retaliating.

The continued mortar shelling, which started along the International Border at Bobiya in Hiranagar sector, on the intervening night of October 19-20, has forced many to migrate to safer places.

The administration has ordered closer of schools falling in border areas and setting up of camps at safer places. Those still staying in the affected areas have been asked not to venture out of their houses during shelling. Meanwhile, farmers are worried about their paddy crops, which is ready for harvesting.
