Another state-run school was torched in north Kashmir’s Pattan in Baramulla district late Wednesday night.

Reports said that Government Primary School Tapper Pattan was gutted in the blaze.

The government reportedly is mulling to engage security patrol around school buildings to ensure such incidents are not repeated.

At least 20 schools have been burnt mysteriously during the on-going unrest triggered by the July 8 killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.

Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani has asked people to be vigilant about such mysterious incidents.

“Recently in different areas, schools and private vehicles have been burnt and we have reports that culprits do so in the vicinity of police and under their watchful eyes,” Geelani led Hurriyat Conference said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Hurriyat Conference said that the “unknown” label is a “misnomer and these anti-people and anti-social actions are carried out in broad daylight with a well-planned strategy to malign the on-going movement and paint it as the violence and anarchy”.

Students have not attended schools for nearly four months now.

However, the government has decided to go ahead with the exams of high and higher secondary classes in November, ignoring that the students haven’t been able to cover even half of their syllabus. But students, Unionist opposition parties and school heads and teachers have been opposing such a move.
