Rashtriya Rifles (RR) men resorted to aerial firing after people came out of their homes against the brining down of life size banners of slain militants in a village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Local reports from Rahmoo Pulwama said that army men from 53 RR reached the village Monday morning to bring down the banners erected by locals in “honour of slain militants”.

The banners with pictures of local militants who lost their lives in encounters with armed forces were installed some time back.

“Many vehicles of RR came and started bringing down the banners but people came out of their homes and protests started,” reports said.

“The army men finding themselves in volatile situation resorted to aerial firing to create fear amongst the people,” local sources said. “Youth resorted to stone pelting and clashes erupted.”

Clashes were going on when last reports came in.
