Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a protest with the India over ceasefire violations along the Working Boundary and the Line of Control (LoC).

Foreign Office’s Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh today and strongly condemned the “unprovoked” ceasefire violations on October 31, 2016.

“Firing by Indian border forces Monday along the LoC in Nakyal and Jandrot sectors killed six civilians, including a woman and injuring eight others, including two women,” the Dawn.com reported. “FO urged India to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding and to investigate the continued incidents of ceasefire violations.”

Reports said that Pakistan urged Indian authorities to “instruct the Indian border forces to respect” the ceasefire, in letter and spirit, and to “stop targeting” the civilians and villages on the Working Boundary and the LoC.

However, reports from this side of LoC and IB said that eight civilians including two children and two women had been killed after Pakistani mortar shells hit two areas in Jammu province.

UN Military Observers Visit LoC

Meanwhile, a group of United Nations Military Observers group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) visited the LoC near Kotli today and obtained information regarding ceasefire violations by India, the Dawn news report quoting a statement issued by ISP said.

“Indian forces have committed 178 ceasefire violation at the LoC and the Working Boundary this year,” the new report said, “as a result of the violations, 19 civilians have been killed and 80 have been injured. Of the 19 dead, eight were killed on the Working Boundary and 51 were injured, the rest of the civilian casualties were sustained along the LoC.”
