J&K Police on Wednesday said that it arrested four persons allegedly involved in arson incidents in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

A police spokesperson said this evening, “four miscreants involved in the arson incidents in which a school building and a wheel cart were damaged in Ganderbal.”

“As has been reported, that on October 27 in the evening some miscreants attempted to set on fire Government Boys Middle school Duderhama, Ganderbal by hurling a petrol bomb. In the incident some furniture of the school caught fire,” the spokesperson said, “in another incident, miscreants set on fire a wheel cart of a fruit vendor namely Abdul Hamid Kandroo, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Fatehpora, Ganderbal in which the cart was completely damaged.”

The police said that FIR number 212/2016 and 214/2016 were registered respectively on the incidents and investigation taken up.

The police spokesperson said added, “keeping in view the gravity of offences a special investigation team (SIT) headed by Dy SP Headquarters Ganderbal was constituted.”

“During the investigation, four accused identified as Yasir Mukdoomi, son of Saif-u-din; Azam, son of Abdul Majeed Wani; Huzaif Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid Sofi and Mubashir Ahmad Tantray, son of Farooq Ahmad, all residents of Duderhama were identified and subsequently arrested.  During the questioning they confessed their involvement in crime.”

The statement said, “during the investigation it further surfaced that Yasir Mukdoomi, a medical practitioner, was the main instigator behind these incidents and the conspiracy to burn schools etc was hatched by him at his medical shop at Duderhama. Besides, he provided petrol to the other accused and helped them to make petrol bombs that could cause fire.”

“All the four people after found involved in these arson incidents were arrested and subsequently produced before the Court. Among the accused, three are minor and are being dealt under relevant sections of law,” the police spokesperson added.

Public Meet Held at Pattan for Safety of Schools

The police statement added that police in coordination with Sub-Divisional Administration Pattan today organised a public interaction session in ITI Pattan in which hundreds of people participated.

The meeting was organised to obtain suggestions from members of general public for safeguarding the educational institutions.

People who spoke on the occasion underlined the importance of education and the responsibilities of the society towards saving the future of new generation.

The issue of school burning was discussed threadbare and people were informed about efforts undertaken by District administration for security of schools.

During the meeting public support was sought to implement the safety plan.

On this occasion, SSP Baramulla asked people to remain vigilant and help police to unmask the miscreants who are damaging the schools.

He also informed the people about steps taken by police regarding security of schools.

Deputy Commissioner Baramulla appealed people to cooperate with administration for safety of schools and bringing education system back on rails.

Besides others SDM, SDPO and Tehsildar Pattan also participated in the meeting which ended with a resolve to rise to the occasion and join hands to defeat the nefarious designs of anti-social elements.

03 injured in road mishaps

Three persons were injured in a road accident in Kulgam.

A Tractor bearing registration number JK03/1043 and a Van bearing registration number BK7909 met with an accident at Nipora, in Kulgam, resulting in injuries to the van driver and two persons boarding the van.

All the injured have been shifted to District Hospital Islamabad for treatment.

08 Shops Damaged in Fire

Eight shops were damaged in different fire incidents in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts of Central Kashmir.

In Srinagar, fire broke out in a shop belonging to Mohammad Farid Sheikh, son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, resident of Sonwar at Sonwar, Srinagar resulting in complete damage to the shop.

Meanwhile, broke out in the shop at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar, resulting in damage to the shop.

In another incident, fire broke out at Bus Stand Batamaloo near Mirakshah Stand, Srinagar in which five shops were damaged.

Fire tenders with the assistance of police and locals brought these fire incidents under control.

In Ganderbal, fire broke out in a bakery shop belonging to Showkat Ahmad Sofi, son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi resident of Tengpora at Behama Ganderbal, resulting in partial damage to the shop.

Fire was brought under control by fire tenders and locals.
