#Day126: Ahead of Jamia Masjid ‘Chalo’, Curfew Imposed In Srinagar Parts

SRINAGAR

J&K Government has imposed curfew in several Srinagar parts on Friday.

The step was taken in view of Jamia Masjid ‘Chalo’ call by the joint resistance leadership in their latest protest calendar.

Reports and officials said that the curfew has been imposed in Old Srinagar and Batamaloo area in summer capital.

More so, they added, restrictions have been imposed in several other districts of Kashmir Valley.

“Curfew has been imposed in six police stations of Srinagar,” J&K Police spokesperson told Kashmir Life. However, he did not confirm imposition of restrictions in other parts of Valley.

The government has made additional deployment of forces in Old Srinagar which have set up checking points ate various places.

The joint resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik asked people to march towards besieged Jamia Masjid located in Nowhatta area of Srinagar today.

However, Mirwaiz was placed under house detention on Thursday afternoon while as Malik has been detained in a police station since then.

Hurriyat patriarch Geelani is under continuous house detention since 2010.

Notable to mention here, J&K government has banned mandatory congregational Friday prayers in historic Jamia Masjid since July 09, 2016, a day after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed in Bemdoora area of Islamabad district.
