Army on Friday paid tributes to slain soldier, Hav Satnam Singh, who was killed on 09 November 2016 in Machil Sector, of Kupwara district.
Srinagar based defence spokesperson in a statement said that homage was paid to slain soldier in a solemn ceremony held at Badambagh Cantonment.
Hav Satnam Singh had sustained a gunshot wound due to alleged cross-bordere fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) while he was deployed at a forward post in Machil sector, the spokesperson said.
He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated from the post but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries.
Singh had also served earlier in the specialist counter militancy force, Rashtriya Rifles.
The slain soldier hailed from Amritsar, Punjab and is survived by his wife Smt Baljit Kaur and three young children.
The defence spokesperson added that Lt Gen JS Sandhu, the Chinar Corps Commander, said, “every soldier, in his martyrdom, further inspires his comrades to thwart nefarious designs of the adversary.”
The mortal remains of Hav Satnam singh will be flown for last rites to his native place where he will be laid to rest with full military honours.
