On day 20th of current uprising in Kashmir, teachers at University of Kashmir on Thursday expressed “deep concern and shock” over spate of civilian killings by forces.
In a statement issued by their association, Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA), said, “in a meeting KUTA drew attention of human rights organizations to prevail upon the state to rein in the security forces to prevent further valuable human losses.” The KUTA had called an emergency general body meeting today.
The KUTA said that the mass uprisings like the current one is not a law and order problem but the reflection of unresolved Kashmir issue. “And India and Pakistan over the years have been sitting on this at the cost of innocent Kashmiri lives.”
KUTA demanded that serious initiatives should be under taken by the two neighbouring countries for an effective and peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.
The statement added that KUTA impressed upon the security agencies to abandon the use of pellet guns that have resulted in hundreds of eye injuries.
Further, the KUTA appreciated the role of medical staff including ambulance drivers and voluntary trusts. Mohalla Committees and NGOs who have been working endlessly for the past many days in saving human lives.
