Policed raided several houses at Rampur in Chattabal area of Srinagar last mid-night and arrested at least 10 youths.

Several locals who spoke to Kashmir Life said that at least 12 police gypsies, with additional CRPF personnel, raided the houses and beat up inmates and damaged the properties.

“It was round 12 in the night when police came,” a member of local Rampur committee said wishing anonymity. “The locality was frightened and police started beating inmates,” he said.

Another local said that police had a list of at least 50 youths and arrested 10 of them. “They were beaten on the main road before being forced in to police vans,” the locals said, “even women were beaten and abused.”

The locals alleged that the forces damaged window panes, refrigerators and other things.

“It was only after, someone made announcement through Masjid loud speaker and people came out on roads,” the locals said, “in the meanwhile police fled the area.”

A local committee member said that they visited Police Station Qamarwari today but police refused to release the youths. “Send others (youth mentioned in the list),” police told them.
