The locals of South Kashmir’s highway village Lethpora on Tuesday evening said that several forces personnel entered the village in civvies triggering tensions and clashes afterwards.

“People were offering Maghrib prayers when several cops entered Lethpora and beat inmates in a local Jamia Masjid,” a local said. “the forces personnel broke down the window panes of the Masjid as well before rushing to another Mohalla.”

The locals said that cops beat up the locals of Peth Pora while people started making announcements from Masjid loud speakers asking masses to come out on roads against the “atrocities by forces”.

“Sensing trouble, the cops fled and hundreds of locals came out on roads and blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway,” the locals said, “it resulted in clashes as forces lobbed tear gas shells to disperse off the people who were protesting against the high handedness of forces.”

Clashes were going on while this report was being filed.
