Five back-to-back funerals were held, so far, for Farooq Ahmad Kuchay, 30, who was killed last night in Lethpora village by an SPO of ADC Ramban. A driver by profession, Farooq was supposed to get married by the end of August.

According to locals, people are still reaching Lethpora from Ladhoo, Tral, Chandhara, Kakpora, Pulwama, Samboora, Barsoo, Pampore, Awantipora, Hajibal, Banderpora, Hathiwara and other areas to participate in Farooq’s funeral. “So far, around 15 thousand people have offered funeral prayers for Farooq at local Eidgah,” said a local. “There are thousands still on way.”

Special arrangements have been made for the visitors. Requests are being made from Masjid loudspeakers to prepare food for people who have come from as far as Tral and Pulwama main town.

The condition of teenager Suhail Ahmad Wani, who was one of the three injured in last night’s firing, is said to be critical. He is still in ICU at SKIMS, Soura.

In nearby Pampore town situation is tense after last night’s protests. Police have placed a barrier near EDI Sempora to block movement of vehicles towards South Kashmir.

Reports said that before Farooq could be laid to rest CRPF started shelling the Mazaar-e-Shuhda (martyrs graveyard), resulting in intense clashes between mourners and forces.
