Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Thursday directed the officers to ensure that the developmental initiatives being undertaken in the Housing and Urban Development sector are fast-paced so that the people get benefitted from these.

He said the local representatives and the members of the civil society should also be involved in order to make the implementation broad-based and area-specific, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting convened here today.

Minister of State for Housing Urban Development, Ms Asiea Naqash was also present.

Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Hirdesh Kumar, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Bashir Ahmed Khan, Director Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir, Tufail Mattoo, senior offices and executive officers of all the municipal committees of the valley were also present.

Dr Singh directed the officers to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation especially in view of the prevailing situation.

He said a coordinated effort should be made so that the people do not face any inconvenience.

The Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to ensure that the various central and state sponsored schemes are implemented according to the parameters set so that the people get the requisite benefits from these.

He said that they should be completed within the stipulated time frame in order to avoid delay resulting in cost escalation and other related things.

“The schemes like AMRUT, Swatch Bharat Mission and Housing for all which have a huge potential of providing the basic housing amenities to the people living in urban areas should be fast paced and the executing departments and agencies should hold regular meetings to remove the bottle necks if any,” the Dy Chief Minister said.

Dr Singh also directed the officers to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of the schemes besides getting the regular feedback about the execution of these at the ground level.

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Local Bodies, Ms Asiya Naqash also spoke on the occasion and directed the officers to synergize their activities and work in a coordinated manner so that the people get the requisite benefits of the various initiatives being undertaken in the Housing and Urban Development sector.

She said that the officers should hold regular meetings to oversee the status of execution of these.

Commissioner Secretary, Hirdesh Kumar gave a brief overview of the various schemes being undertaken by the department and said that the officers have already been asked to ensure that the people do not face any inconvenience in view of the prevailing situation.

He said that the officers of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Urban and Local Bodies are working in tandem to ensure that people living in the urban and sub-urban areas do not face any inconvenience.

The Director Urban Local Bodies gave an overview of the activities being undertaken by the department in ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation measures being undertaken maintaining that every care is being taken to ensure that the people do not face any inconvenience viz a viz the various services being rendered by the department.

He said that the necessary directions have been passed down the line to ensure proper attendance of the officials at all the municipal committees so that they are available to the people. He also gave an overview of the activities being undertaken by the department in developmental sector.

Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Bashir Ahmed Khan gave a brief about the initiatives undertaken by the corporation in ensuring the general cleanliness besides the sanitation measures being undertaken.

He said that the attendance of the employees is being monitored regularly and majority of the employees are attending their duties.

He said that the action is also being initiated against illegal constructions and strict directions have been given to the officials to ensure that these are arrested.
