At least seven persons were injured when forces raided a few villages in South Kashmir’s Shopian district in the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday.
Correspondent reports from the district said that people came out on roads in Kanipora, Alyaalpora, Pahlipora and Pahnoo villages when forces in “Rakshaks” raided to arrest youths.
The villagers alleged that men in uniform damaged window panes and other properties.
“The forces had come to arrest youths but people resisted and came out on roads around 2 AM,” reports said.
The villagers made announcements from Masjid loudspeakers to “come out on roads and resist the forces excesses”.
“As people came out of their beds to protest the raids,” local reports said, “stone pelting started which ensued in to clashes with forces in which seven persons were injured.”
“The injured were locally treated as fear of arrests have gripped the whole area,” reports said.
Post Script: Kashmir Life received a message from a local of the area which read:
Actually these two areas Alyalpora and Kanipora are within town limits. The army personnel broke window panes of houses at around 2 am in the night then after people came out they ran away.
Then police arrived on the scene and clashed with the protesters till 7:00 in the morning with no relenting, during that period around 200 tear smoke/sound shells were fired and whole Shopian town was awake.
