Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Abdul Ghani Kohli Thursday stressed on need to promote Fish farming in the State.
Speaking during a review meeting, the Minister said that instead of relying on import of fish stress should be given to enhance fish production within the State by promoting its farming among locals, especially among unemployed youth, an official spokesperson said this evening.
The Minister said that the State is laced with fresh water bodies that make it an ideal place for fish farming. Promoting the farming in such circumstance would not only give boast to local entrepreneurship in Valley, but would also help in generating revenue for the State, the Minister said.
The Minister informed the meeting that to promote the farming among youth the Government is providing the assistance amount of Rs 2.50 lakh for Trout farming while as Rs 1.50 lakh is provide for Carp farming. He added that the assistance amount has 100 cent percent subsidy on it.
The Minister was informed that Valley generates around Rs three crore from the sale of fish and seed annually, besides getting Rs 90 lakhs as license fee.
Kohli asked the concerned officers to increase number of Departmental mobile vans to make sure people get fish easily.
The meeting was also informed that fish farms in State besides, being fully equipped with latest scientific technology, have good seed stock of Trout and Carp fish that will last for around next three years.
